It is no secret that the Mets bullpen has been terrible for the first 35 plus games this season. The plan going into the season was Bobby Parnell would pitch the ninth and Vic Black would pitch the 8th. The two have made a combined one appearance for the Mets this season and the team has not found anyone else who can close out games effectively.

Vic Black, 25, had a rough spring training and start to his season in Las Vegas but has seemingly righted the ship. The right-hander has a 0.68 ERA in 13.1 innings in Triple-A, although he has worked 10. Black might be the Mets best reliever right now and deserves a call up. The Mets could make room in the bullpen by designating a reliever like Jose Valverde for assignment.

  1. Mike Young says:

Steve – I agree. Bring up Vic Black and designate Valverde to Las Vegas ASAP. Other BP options include De Grom and Montero with Syndergaard joining the rotation in July? One thing is for sure the Mets can’t afford anymore blown leads especially if the team continues to not score runs and lose extra inning games. We need Sandy to resolve these problems soon or the possibility of a 90 win season will evaporate quickly if it hasn’t already happened. Mike

I think the plan is changing Mike. I believe the Mets are far more likely to promote a Montero OR a deGrom for the starting rotation and move Mejia back to the bullpen (again) -Steven
