Kyle Farnsworth has opted out of his contract with the New York Mets. Farnsworth, 37, had a very poor spring training with New York and was not going to make the club so he exercised his opt out clause. Daisuke Matsusaka also has one that he can use on Tuesday but he is unlikely to use it as he is likely to make the 25-man roster.

Farnsworth just lacked the velocity he was going to need to get anyone out in the bullpen. The Mets have much better options elsewhere for their bullpen but Farnsworth could resign later on to go to the minors if he cannot find a situation he prefers elsewhere.
