In the busiest day so far of the baseball offseason, it would be easy to miss a move or two. Here is everything that went on during a very eventful Tuesday starting with the Mets.

  • The Mets met with OF Curtis Granderson over the weekend. The Mets are very interested in Granderson and want to give him a three year deal. The consensus around the league though is that will not be enough.
  • The Yankees agreed on a 7-year deal worth $153 million with former Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury.
  • The Yankees didn’t stop there signing Infielder Kelly Johnson to a one-year deal around $3 million.
  • The Rockies traded OF Dexter Fowler to the Astros for OF Brandon Barnes and SP Jordan Lyles. Fowler would have been perfect for the Mets and the Astros didn’t give up much of anything to acquire him.
  • The Marlins signed catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a three-year deal worth $21 million.
  • The Texas Rangers traded Craig Gentry and Josh Lindblom to the rival Athletics for prospect OF Michael Choice. Choice is a top 100 prospect who has a ton of power.
  • The Red Sox replaced Salty by signing A.J. Pierzynski to a one year deal worth $8.25 million.
  • The Rockies signed 1b Justin Morneau to a 2-year deal worth $13 million.
  • The Reds have taken 2B Brandon Phillips off the trade block.
  • Carlos Beltran met with the Royals Tuesday and they offered him a three year deal. They are not close to a deal however it doesn’t look like Beltran is destined to be a Yankee after all.
  • The Athletics traded OF Seth Smith to San Diego for reliever Luke Gregerson. Remember the Padres offered Gregerson to the Mets for Daniel Murphy two summers ago only to be turned down.
  • The Rays today acquired C Ryan Hanigan and RP Heath Bell in a three team trade.
  • The Tigers signed Joe Nathan to be their closer for $20 million over two years.

With the Winter Meetings beginning in Orlando next week the offseason should stay as hot over the next couple of days. The Mets better move quick or they could be in some trouble here.

Steve – In other words while the MLB hot stove world of baseball keeps on turning the “rebuilding” Mets continue to stand pat and do nothing. They can’t afford Granderson. They can’t afford any player that would help them win more games in 2014. It is another “de ja vou all over again” off season for the hapless Mets and their even more hapless fans. As we think and say “Lets Go Mets” we know in our heart of hearts that they once again that the Mets aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Mike
