Aaron Harang will make his Mets debut on Thursday

The Mets have announced they are calling up RHP Aaron Harang, OF Mike Baxter and C Juan Centeno  to the big-league roster.

Harang, 35, was signed to a minor-league deal last week and will wear John Buck’s old No. 44. He pitched 6.0 innings, allowed six hits, three runs and struck out six in the PCL semi-finals. Harang who badly struggled with a 5.76 ERA with the Mariners this season before he was released. Harang will start for the Mets on Thursday.

Centeno is a young catcher who could emerge as the back up next season. It remains to be seen if the Mets will be willing to use two rookie catchers next season but Centeno is definitely auditioning for a major league bench job next year.

Ruben Tejada is expected to be recalled on Tuesday. He needs exactly 21 days of service time in the major leagues to be eligible for arbitration after the season so the Mets will call him up on Tuesday to avoid that which makes financial sense.

Tejada will play everyday but it has become clear that he will not be a starting player for the Mets in 2014 and beyond.
