David Wright told reporters that he hopes to return sometime in September. However Wright isn’t close to a rehab assignment. Luckily the Binghamton Mets will be in the playoffs so Wright can do a rehab assignment eventually with them if he is deemed ready to go.

At this point it doesn’t make much sense to push Wright just for the final two weeks or so when the team is already out of the race. The Mets are 17 games out of first place.

Wilmer Flores can handle third everyday in Wright’s absence. The Mets need a healthy Wright to play 150 games in 2014, a year where they hope to contend for a playoff spot.

Wright should only come back if he is 100%.

Wright has a grade two strain of the hamstring which is a very serious injury. No reason to jeopardize 2014 just to play the last few weeks, plus it gives the Mets an extended look at Flores.

Steve – I saw that on the SNY web site yesterday and that would be awesome. It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway, the Mets are a much better team with David Wright in the line up and playing third base than without him. Mike

Absolutely, but with less than 40 games left, and little improvement in the hamstring, Wright is running out of time to get back. Hopefully he can and will make an impact as the Mets look to take 2nd place from the Washington Nationals. Thanks for the comment Mike!
