1B Jose Abreu has escaped from Cuba and is taking up residency in Haiti according to multiple news outlets.

Abreu, 26, is considered to be the crown jewel of Cuban baseball players. After seeing Cuban ball players like Yasiel Puig and Yoenis Cespedes come over and make an impact right away, scouts and GM’s are drooling over the idea of adding Abreu.

Abreu really impressed in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Most talent evaluators believe Abreu is the most talented baseball player in the world that is not already in Major League Baseball.

Abreu should be cleared to be a free agent sometime this off season and the Mets who should have a lot of money to spend this off season should take a look at this young potential superstar.

I speculated that the Mets could improve their lineup by adding international players last off season in a post here.

His price tag should be around $50 million dollars and when he becomes a free agent expect a lot of suitors. Teams have been waiting for this kid to come over for a long time.

If he is truly the crown jewel of the current batch of talented Cuban player’s it will not be look before he is wearing Pinstripes.

Haha the Yanks could be looking for a splash this offseason and Abreu would qualify as such but they have been very shy in the international market the past few seasons. Will be very interesting when MLB declares him a free agent, thanks for the comment!
