After taking the loss in Thursday’s 15 inning loss to the Diamondbacks, Brandon Lyon was designated for assignment by the Mets.

In 37 games for the Mets this season the 33 year old Lyon went 2-2 with a 4.98 ERA this season. His walks were up from 2012 and his strikeouts were way down.

The Mets now have 10 days to find a trade for Lyon or they will have to simply release him.

Don’t get too excited as you’re not going to get anything all that valuable for a DFA’d player.

Sandy Alderson signed two players to major league contracts last offseason. Lyon and Shaun Marcum. Marcum has been bad and Lyon is being let go.

Since Alderson has been here he has built up and torn down the Mets bullpen three straight years with zero success. He will hope to have better success with the bullpen this offseason.

Steve – Sending down Brandon Lyon was the right move. Hopefully, Burke will now perform better than he did when he was last sent down. Mike

Yeah Lyon won’t be a big loss for the Mets and hopefully guys like Carlos Torres and David Aardsma can continue to pitch well because they are now Terry Collins top two set up men now. -Steve
