Mets 2B Daniel Murphy is 6 for his last 43 with just a walk and no homers over that span. It appears to be just a slump but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Mets offense has spiraled when Murphy and John Buck stopped hitting.

Murphy will be given the day off Friday vs. the Pirates.

Over their last nine home games, the Mets have scored 22 runs (an average of just 2.4 runs per game) while hitting .181. They have scored two runs or less in six of those games.

I think Murphy will be fine. He’s a professional hitter who has been consistently around .300 throughout his career. Murphy is now one of the veterans on the team since being called up in 2008 to fill in for Marlon Anderson on an early August evening against the Astros.

Murphy is now down .266 after a very hot start. Murphy will be fine but the Mets need him to get going quickly to help set the table for David Wright.
