The Mets improved to 5-2 last night as Matt Harvey mowed down the Phillies for seven strong innings of one run ball. His control wasn’t great but he simply overpowered people to get his nine strikeouts. The Phillies offense was coming off a strong performance the game before against the Royals, compiling 15 hits and 8 runs. Harvey, 24, somehow looks even better than he did last year although it is just two starts.

Even Curt Shilling on Baseball tonight after the game acknowledged that once the Mets gave Harvey his three runs in the second inning, Harvey’s body language simply said, and oaky game over. He was the right, after the second inning the game was over.

If Harvey and Jon Niese can be the 1-2 punch that the Mets think they can be and get some contributions from other pitchers, then all of a sudden the Mets plan to compete doesn’t have to wait until 2014, 2015. Harvey and Niese have held up their end of the bargain through two starts and now Dillon Gee goes tonight in Philly looking for his first win.

Steve – great game last night. Tonight Lee vs Gee. Gee will need to be on top of his game and can the Mets get to Lee – Lets keep rollong forward and Lets Go Mets!

  2. Steven Inman says:

Yeah Gee needs to show that he is the third guy in this rotation. SHould be a fun game but Cliff Lee is going to be really tough. Lets go Mets!
