The Mets announced today that they have sent Zack Wheeler, Collin McHugh, Hansel Robles, Gonzalez Germen, Elvin Ramirez, Darin Gorski, Reese Havens, Juan Lagares, Wilfredo Tovar and Cesar Puello to minor league camp. These players don’t come as a big surprise as none of them were expected to be in the Mets opening day plans. McHugh and Ramirez had big league experience with the Mets last year.

Wheeler obviously was expected to start the season in the minor leagues. He will stay in Las Vegas until around June 15th, which is expected to be the Super Two cutoff date this year although that isn’t confirmed. If Wheeler doesn’t perform well, he will likely be down their longer. If Wheeler is just not being challenged he may be up sooner but the Mets will likely keep him in the minors for all of April and most of May. The Mets are now down to 45 players in major league camp.
