Terry Collins told reporters today that OF Marlon Byrd is not only likely to make the roster, but could in fact be the everyday right-fielder. “You’re talking about a guy who’s in this camp, who has a chance to make a huge difference besides Lucas Duda it might be Marlon Byrd,” Collins explained. “This guy was one of the best players in the National League not very long ago. If he is the same player he was in Chicago a couple of years ago, we might have found ourselves our right fielder.” Collins said.

Byrd, 35, hit .293 scored 84 runs, 39 doubles, 12 home runs with 66 RBI and was an all-star for the Chicago Cubs in 2010. If he has anything left in the tank he will get a lot of at bats in the Mets cloudy outfield picture. Marlon Byrd will play mostly against left-handers in a platoon with Mike Baxter. Byrd and Baxter’s playing time will depend on how they play as the season progresses.
