The New York Mets acquired SS Brandon Hicks from the Oakland A’s for cash considerations. Hicks will likely compete for the backup middle infield job. Ronny Cedeno occupied that job last season but is likely looking for a starting job making him unlikely to return to Queens. Hicks,27, hit .172 with three homers and seven RBIs in 64 at-bats with Oakland this past season. Brandon Hicks has had 90 at bats between his time in Atlanta and Oakland. He has struck out 42 times during that span.

Hicks has some pop but this move is likely just to save a little money on the utility spot. Hicks will make the minimum while Cedeno will look for a few million dollars and a larger role than what he had last season. The Mets will probably look for another player to compete with Hicks for a spot on the 25-man roster.
