Should the Mets inquire about Logan Morrison?

After the Marlins fire sale the other day, rumors that Logan Morrison and Ricky Nolasco could be the next to go. Morrison is a great young talent, who hasn’t yet put it all together in Miami. Morrison has had his issues in Miami including filing a grievance against the team last year when being optioned to the minors. Morrison wasn’t happy when he found out that the Marlins had shipped players to Toronto in what looks like another fire sale. “The Marlins fans have every right to be mad and should be mad. They were told one thing and that didn’t quite work out. I feel for them.” The Marlins have been actively shopping him and the Mets who need outfielders with upside should be interested.

According to CBS Sports Chris Cwik, Morrison will likely be moved soon as the Marlins fire sale continues. The 25-year-old Morrison struggled through injuries last season, playing in just 93 games. He hit just .230/.308/.399 in 334 plate appearances. Morrison is under team control through the 2016 season. Morrison is still making the league minimum, is a very patient hitter and has some power which would appeal to the Mets.

Coming up as a first basemen, Morrison hasn’t adjusted to left field as well as projected but a team who acquires him could “hide” him out there. He has power and decent speed. Morrison if put into the right situation could be a very good hitter. The Marlins have put Morrison on the trade block the last couple of seasons but it sounds like they are fully committed to moving him this winter.

Even though they are in the same division I don’t see that being any kind of problem if the Mets were to try and acquire Logan Morrison. The Marlins have made some questionable decisions over the last year giving up a lot of talent. Their isn’t a reason to think they wouldn’t do that again and give up on a talented player like Lomo too early. The Mets should inquire and see if they could take advantage.
