According to mlbtraderumors.com the Angels are unlikely to resign outfielder Torii Hunter. Hunter had a nice year for the Angles but is asking for multiple years at age 37. BrokeMets talked a few weeks ago about the chances of Torii Hunter joining the Mets. If Hunter is re-signed, Peter Bourjos could become expendable and would attract attention from several teams in need of center field help.
While it is unlikely that the Mets can afford Hunter, even on a one year deal the fact that he is unlikely to rejoin the Angels does give the Mets a chance. Hunter would play right field every day in New York. A right handed bat like Hunter would fit very nicely in a lefty dominated Mets lineup.

Most executives don’t believe the Angels will offer Hunter a qualifying offer which means he is likely to become a free agent. While Hunter had a nice year, his BABIP was extremely high which makes some executives think he is due for some kind of regression. That could work in the Mets favor as a buy low candidate. The chances of the Mets signing Hunter are small but Torii is a bat the Mets should certainly keep an eye on during the winter.
